Director Mozez Singh in currently on cloud nine as his Netflix documentary Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous is earning praise. The movie captured the controversial yet profound life of popular rapper in the most sensitive way. However, some chapters from Honey Singh’s life including divorce, rift with Badshah and Choot Vol.1 song credit-row was not addressed. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Mozez revealed why he didn’t touch these aspects of his life.
Mozez Singh on not addressing Badshah-Honey Singh controversy
Honey Singh has often found himself in pool of controversies for his lyrics. The same happened with Choot Vol.1 which he claims he has not sung. Talking about same, director Mozez confirmed, “Well, see, the thing is we have spent a lot of time on the song Choot Vol.1 in the film. It is a song apparently written by Mafia Mundeer. So we’ve done that.”
The rapper is also known to have a nasty fight with Badshah from over 10 years. Talking about why the rift was not talked about in the film, Mozez claims, “The reason why we did not get into his fight with Badshah or what happened between him and Raftaar is because Honey said that this is a very old part of my life. And it is it’s not relevant to me anymore. I don’t care. So I can go around asking questions for some of his fans who want to know and all that stuff. But it was not syncing with the whole rest of the film. We wanted to tell a much more, profound story. And it was not syncing that why did he fought with Badshah 10-15 years back, nobody cares. I mean, it’s still the fans and social media who makes a big thing out of it, but actually no one gives a shit. Like, supposing I was to tell you that this happened between them, then what?”
Mozez Singh on not showing Honey Singh’s divorce chapter
The director also shared why the divorce chapter with Shalini Talwar was not showcased. He revealed he wanted to deal with t sensitively and was keen on knowing both sides of the story. He remarks, “The reason we didn’t get into the divorce situation was because if I am presenting it, I need her side of the story as well. I cannot just give his side of the story because that would be unfair to her. Also, they are not allowed to talk about it legally, so where would I go with it? By law they can’t talk about it and so if I don’t get any side of the story how do I present it? And the thing is I cannot do that to a woman where you’re telling the divorce story from just a man’s point of view.”
He continued, “I need the female point of view. He just said that I would talk about it if she and I could both talk about it, and we we decided that we don’t want to get into it because she can’t talk about it. Right? True. So, it was not something that he was trying to hide or trying to show him in a certain way or whatever it is. Like, the fact of the matter is that she dropped all the charges and life went on.”
On a parting note, Mozez believed Ranveer Singh could be perfect to play Honey Singh if he had o choose an actor. Sighting the reason he believed he has got it what it takes to be a rock star naturally.
